"Nine to Five" - Greta Laesch, curated by Nick Garlid

Greta has greatly enjoyed exploring linocut as a new medium. These first works include pieces that investigate themes of divinity in nature and femininity, such as Taking Flight and Isle of Skye. She has also created works that highlight the beauty in the mundane, including Five-to-Nine and Williams Skyscraper. Much of her inspiration comes from the world around her, where she continually practices the art of seeing beauty in everyday life.
Her artistic growth has been shaped by the mentorship of Pallavi Sen and Mariel Campana, whose guidance she's said has been invaluable. While her primary practice is in oil painting and mixed media, Greta has recently developed an interest in making paint from locally sourced ochres, which she looks forward to incorporating into her printmaking practice in the future.
Greta Laesch '25 is a senior at Williams College, majoring in statistics and computer science, but she harbors a deep passion for studio art. She has immersed herself in a variety of artistic media during her time at college, with her latest enthusiasm being linocut printmaking. Outside of academic and artistic pursuits, she is a member of the nordic ski team and enjoys all things outdoors.
"Despues a la playa" by Chris Rodriguez
This work, and the others in the series, explore how lines and color can be used to describe experiences. Daily, we encounter the codification of objects with lines, such as bar codes on groceries. These works question how to codify experiences, abstractly capturing their essence. I give each of my experiences a unique code to interpret. My inspiration comes from Sunnei, Keith Herring, Jason Stopa, and singer Karol G, each of whom plays with shapes and colors in a fascinating and sometimes queer way.
