Transcription | Voice Note [2025-09-09 18:21]
----------------------
So I'm at the Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel exhibit here at St. Mary's Cathedral and It's great. I love it. It's very low tech. All the images are um mounted. It looks like it was sort of a fabric printing, and then they're mounted onto an aluminum frame. And uh what's great about it is how big the images are, and you can get right up next to them. What's That's the best, and there's plenty of space for mingling and moving around, and there's no rules about where to go. I think about. 1/3 to 25% of the people are using the barcodes on the Uh, all the, um, posters. And then listening I think that the um the write-ups in the poster board should match exactly what the voice notes are saying. I also think the voice notes are too long. Um, and maybe you'd have more writing for people who want to read more, but the voice notes, they're, they're all at least a minute, and it just seems too long. Also, the, well, the guides on the poster boards to the Sistine Chapel are good, they're not great, meaning you can't. It's it's hard to exactly know for sure. Um, which panel you're looking at. But, oh, and also the lights, I mean, the, the, the whole thing, I'm sure it can be taken down and put into, um, like it's very collapsible. Uh, what else did I observe? Lots of people taking pictures of the um images themselves. A lot of school kids here and their teachers. Um Of course it would be great if this was offered. Online also. And of course there's, you know, an incredible amount of iconography that would lend itself to dots on Pixium. And but again, the whole thing is. Decidedly low tech, but very engaging. I mean, they must have in here right now, oh my gosh, they've got to have 200 people in this room right now. OK. Yeah. Little bit of light music playing. At one end there's at the end it has the Last Judgment on it. Which might be a different like format, a different way it was printed. It doesn't seem to be the same setup, but The Last Judgment has a TV screen next to it, playing a video. Which is really cool, and you wonder if they thought about doing more of those. Um. Yeah, but it's really well done. I haven't been in the gift shop yet. That's It's very engaging. A number of padres here. Mostly the people who aren't. Uh, Padres and a lot of women and school kids. I think it's really well done overall, and again, decidedly low tech. The things that are hanging from the ceilings are the same aluminum. Um, frame for this stretched fabric. So the images aren't on poster board, they're, the images are printed on a fabric and then stretched and mounted around these aluminum frames, and then there's um uh black pipe holders with lights on them. It's again, well, low tech but really well done. Oh my.

Koshare Indian Kiva and Museum - 7/23/25
I visited the Koshari Indian Museum in in LaJunta on July 23, 2025. I visited with Brittney and Jeremy Manning. Jeremy is the curator of the museum. He’s also an artist. He’s also the leader of the Koshari Indian dancer group. He said that there are 10 to 15 members in that group every year and that they travel around the country. And interest is in remains high in participating in that group. he said that some of the members are actually indigenous. Many of them are low income and appreciate the opportunity . Jeremy showed me the basement of the museum where they have an incredible collection of pottery and artifacts as well as additional paintings. Apparently there’s some law that precludes organizations now from sharing art artifacts, but they can share paintings. And the paintings that the museum has is amazing there must be 100 paintings on display and there’s at least that many in storage in the basement. And what he told me was that the kids would take the money that they raise from going around the country and over the years and they’ve made some very good including one item that he said was worth as much as $100,000. I told him that he should watch American animal and be sure that the security in the museum is good. Great guy and I need to spend more time with him. And visit the collection and appreciate it more fully. I also gave him my pixie card and maybe there’s some collaboration at some point in the future.

Perplexity |
Phillip Gonzales is a graphic designer and artist who was born and raised in San Jose, California, at the heart of Silicon Valley12. Deeply influenced by the region’s dynamic urban landscape and cultural diversity, Gonzales developed a passion for creating original, modern artwork that reflects both the spirit of his hometown and the broader West Coast aesthetic215. Over the years, he has built a reputation for his vibrant digital illustrations and graphic designs, which often celebrate the unique neighborhoods and social fabric of San Jose. One notable example is his canvas print depicting the SoFA District in the 1990s, a tribute to the city’s creative and nightlife scene during a pivotal era15.
Gonzales’s work is available through his online store, Westcoastartworks, where he continues to produce and share new pieces inspired by California’s evolving identity2. After spending much of his life in San Jose, he currently resides in Southern California, but his artistic roots remain firmly planted in the Bay Area1. In addition to his visual art, Gonzales is recognized within the local creative community for his contributions as a designer and his commitment to representing the culture and history of San Jose through his art1215.

You Are Here - Andrea Myklebust and Stanton G. Sears - 2005
Andrea Myklebust and Stanton G. Sears are a husband-and-wife artist team renowned for their large-scale public art installations across the United States. Since beginning their collaboration in 1993, they have completed more than 70 major projects, often integrating sculptural and mosaic elements that reflect the natural and cultural histories of their sites69. Their works are characterized by the use of durable materials such as stone, metal, terrazzo, and lighting, and are designed to resonate with the communities and environments in which they are placed6.
Both artists have deep connections to Minnesota, though they currently reside in Vermont. Myklebust, originally from Minnesota, is also a shepherd, weaver, and sculptor, with a strong interest in sustainable textile production15. Sears, whose early public art career began with the notable "Stone Boats" benches on Nicollet Mall, is recognized for his thoughtful approach to public space and his expertise in stone carving37.
At Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Myklebust and Sears created several enduring terrazzo floor mosaics, including the striking 2005 "Dragonfly" mosaic at Terminal 1’s light rail platform. This piece, among others, exemplifies their commitment to crafting meaningful, site-specific art that endures and evolves with time2611.

The Jolly Pumpkin
The Jolly Pumpkin or The King of Sour?
Where is the art in the San Jose airport?
Mizu Sushi - Denver Airport - 4/29/25
The Suitcase Gargoyle - Denver Airport - 4/29/25
Perplexity |
From TMP: One of my favorites at Denver airport
From Perplexity: The suitcase gargoyles at Denver International Airport are part of the “Notre Denver” installation by artist Terry Allen, created in 1995. These bronze gargoyles, perched in suitcases above baggage claim, are inspired by the protective gargoyles of Notre-Dame Cathedral and symbolize safeguarding travelers’ luggage14. Over time, they’ve become icons of the airport’s quirky art scene and are often mentioned in DIA conspiracy theories25. The airport has embraced their cult status, even featuring a talking animatronic gargoyle for special events23. Both original gargoyles were reinstalled in 2024 after renovations5.
