Andrew Reid's Great Lakes Maps
Great Lake Map CollectionAcknowledgementsMany people over many years contributed to building this collection. London map dealer Jonathan Potter provided my first two maps and proved accommodating when I wanted to exchange one map for another. The late Joe C.W. Armstrong, author of From Sea Unto Sea, a book on exploration maps of Canada, gave valuable advice on choosing a focus for the collection. The late Seymour Schwartz MD, who wrote the textbook Principles of Surgery which I studied in my student years, also wrote several books on cartography and confirmed what an interesting field it is as well as the need to learn and research the many cartography books available. John and Eliane Dotson at Old World Auctions provided an excellent website for me to use for acquiring many of my maps and map books that I desired as well as adding to my knowledge of cartography. Edward H Dahl, formerly Curator of Early Canadian Cartography, at the National Archives of Canada, provided wise advice for choosing some of the best maps and kindly sold me some from his own collection. Tom Paper, who developed Pixeum.org, and Matthew Nachamkin, a summer intern at Pixeum, have greatly helped me organize the collection and share it widely. I offer my sincere appreciation and thanks for all these important contributions.
