Die Brei Gerechten Namacher - 1915
From Perplexity..."Die drei gerechten Kammacher" ("The Three Righteous Comb-Makers") by Gottfried Keller is a satirical novella set in the German town of Seldwyla, exploring the lives of three industrious, frugal, and cautious comb-maker journeymen working in a local workshop. Their relentless pursuit of respectability and security leads to conflict when all three attempt to secure the hand of a wealthy young woman and the ownership of the workshop. A contest devised by their master for succession ends with all three facing unexpected disappointment, ultimately exposing the flaws of rigid righteousness and social conformity.wikipedia+2The novella was illustrated by Ernst Würtenberger (1868–1934), a German artist known for his expressive drawings and printmaking. Other editions have featured illustrations by Alfred Cossmann and René Beeh.famsf+2Gottfried Keller (1819–1890) was a Swiss poet and novelist renowned for his mastery of literary realism and incisive social satire. Originally aspiring to become a painter, Keller's artistic background influenced his vivid literary style. His works, especially the cycle "Die Leute von Seldwyla," critique the moral limitations of petty bourgeois society in 19th-century Switzerland and Germany, reflecting the era’s tension between tradition and modernity. Würtenberger, an accomplished printmaker, was active in Munich, while Cossmann was a notable Austrian illustrator; both contributed significantly to early 20th-century book illustration.gottfriedkeller+7https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_drei_gerechten_Kammmacherhttps://www.gottfriedkeller.ch/schule/kammacher.phphttps://scholarsarchive.byu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=3947&context=facpubhttps://www.famsf.org/artworks/die-drei-gerechten-kammacher-by-gottfried-keller-munich-kurt-wolff-verlag-1920http://collections.artsmia.org/art/64142/unknown-illustration-for-die-drei-gerechten-kammacher-erzahlung-von-gottfried-keller-alfred-cossmanhttps://www.moma.org/s/ge/collection_ge/object/object_objid-123796.htmlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gottfried_Kellerhttps://kids.kiddle.co/Gottfried_Kellerhttps://www.britannica.com/biography/Gottfried-Kellerhttps://pantheon.world/profile/person/Gottfried_Kellerhttps://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Encyclopedia_Americana_(1920)/Keller,_Gottfriedhttps://fau.digital.flvc.org/islandora/object/fau:10370https://www.jstor.org/stable/40246418https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/163306066-die-drei-gerechten-kammacherhttps://utppublishing.com/doi/pdf/10.3138/seminar.44.1.37?download=truehttps://picryl.com/media/die-drei-gerechten-kammmacher-wurtenberger-7-ca4a98https://search.proquest.com/openview/63090ff516d0f2ca60350d9fbe780db5/1?pq-origsite=gscholar&cbl=1820945https://www.castlebooksandtea.com/product/14900508/die-drei-gerechten-kammacher-von-gottfried-keller-ed-with-notes-and-vocabulary-by-harry-t-collingshttps://www.jstor.org/stable/405677https://www.ebay.com/itm/315097311985From Google Image Search...The image displays the title page and publication details of the 1915 edition of "Die drei gerechten Kammacher" (The Three Righteous Comb Makers), a novella by the Swiss author Gottfried Keller. Published in 1915 about three German comb makers working for a master craftsman, the story has a dark ending. I especially love the image of the three men fighting with a wild creature. TMP 9/18/22“The Three Just Comb Makers…is a novella by the Swiss poet Gottfried Keller . Written in Berlin in 1855 and first published in 1856 in the collection The People of Seldwyla , it is one of Keller's better-known stories today and is regarded as an example of a realistic grotesque . The story is about three German journeymen who work for a Seldwyler master craftsman , all three hardworking, frugal, frugal, calculating and conflict-averse. Despite this – or precisely because of this – they become bitter rivals: everyone wants to buy the comb-making business, and everyone wants to marry the same wealthy maid. A decisive race ensues, which ends badly for two of the journeymen. But even the winner ends ingloriously as a henpecked husband.” Wikipedia
