Atlas Zu Polyclet -1877
I was fascinated by the images of the human body in this very large book from 1877. It reminds me of Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man. The images are, quite frankly, a little spooky. The creator of this book, Gottfried Schadow (see image below), was a famous Prussian sculptor who also created the chariot on top of the Brandenberg Gate. My favorite page is probably the last page, the one with three fully-dressed citizens in a line-up. A website called figure-drawings.com references the historical importance of these drawings and that artists today use these drawings to perfect their craft.
