About Life is Golden:

"Life is Golden" is a  contemplative piece on the beauty and fragility of nature. It’s my commentary on the delicate balance of our ecosystem, and the bees’ crucial role within.

This piece has 3 dozen bees painted on the vitelline membrane of the egg yolk, then collaged back into the eggshells. I purposely placed random eggs out of direct eye view so  that as the viewer you are forced to look for the bees therefore engaging in closer examination and  thoughtful experience.

And that is my hope for this piece, a pause, and reflection.

From Miriam Sweeney to Yin Fu:

Dear Yin,

Thank you so much for choosing “Life is Golden” to live with you in your home.  I hope it fondly reminds you of your grandfather, the beekeeper, and the humble worker bees' impact that goes beyond its size and power.

In the back of the piece are 10 or so quotes about bees. I have two favorites, the first is attributed to Albert Einstein:

"If the bee disappears from the surface of the Earth, man would have no more than four years left to live."

The second  is a quote by the Greek  Saint John Chrysostom:

“The bee is more honored than other animals, not because she labors, but because she labors for others.”

Artist Statement, Miriam Sweeney, April 27, 2025:

My art practice is deeply informed by the intricate dialogue between organic forms and geometric structures, the space  between order and chaos, and the balance between the natural and the constructed.
By weaving these elements together, I strive to create works that not only capture the viewer's eye but prompt an exploration and reflection into the depths of our interconnected existence. I hope my work is a catalyst for dialogue, illuminating the delicate equilibrium that defines our shared environment, and perhaps inspire a sense of stewardship and connection that transcend the canvas.
