Robert Bechtle https://g.co/kgs/SoExMj1

Robert Alan Bechtle[3] (May 14, 1932 – September 24, 2020) was an American painter, printmaker, and educator. He lived nearly all his life in the San Francisco Bay Area[4] and whose art was centered on scenes from everyday local life.[5] His paintings are in a Photorealist style and often depict automobiles.[6] Source: wikipedia

William T. Wiley

b. 1937

Acrylic on canvas

144 in. x 312 in.

SFAC 20

Known for his humorous use of puns and parody, William T. Wiley’s work defined the nucleus of the Bay Area Funk movement in the 1960s. Wiley says of his work during this time: “It suddenly became clear to me that art was what I’d heard on the radio that day, or something I saw outside. Suddenly, anything was potential.” This work was originally created and installed as an outdoor billboard prior to being purchased by the Arts Commission for the Airport.

4/24/24 - I enjoyed learning about the artist Sam Francis while waiting for a 6:30 flight from SFO to Denver and looking at this 3-panel piece of art. I’m going to interpret it as home-travel-home, left-center-right. What an amazing life. He must have been a character.

Gustavo Rivera. He may be famous and carried by Saatchi, but I’m not a big fan.

William T. Wiley
