The water flows fastest around the outside of the bend and erosion takes place here. A river cliff is formed. If you could slice through the meander from one side to the other, this is what you would see:
This river is flowing across a wide flood plain which it has formed by repeatedly depositing sediment on the valley floor during times of flood. @tomadmin

The ripples in the water are indicative of helicoidal flow; the water 'spins around' in the river as well as making its way to the sea. @tomadmin

The Romans built Hadrian's Wall in the early part of the second century to mark the northern limit of their empire.
Sections of the wall run along the top of a steep escarpment where man and nature combined to protect the Roman Empire from the Picts who lived beyond its borders.
Sycamore Gap Tree, on Hadrian's Wall, also featured in Robin Hood movie...source: Wikipedia
One of the best preserved parts of the wall is the fort at Vindolanda near Hexham @tomadmin @gsenior1968
